How Barack Hussein Obama Was Elected Print E-mail
Opinion - Moderate & Independent

The reasons behind Barack Hussein Obama being elected are compounding problems that strike at the core government foundation and even our own military. Obama’s socialistic views aren’t new ideas; they’ve been inching their way in American culture for centuries now. Socialism seems to be gaining more support than capitalism, which was evident when historically high number of inner-city residents flocked to Obama’s side. The war against socialism didn’t get any support from the public school system, the media, affirmative action, or the U.S. military.

Before combating socialism one must realize that the only system that can work long term and enable more people to prosper is laissez faire capitalism. The study of capitalism is a vast and complex subject worthy of a library of literature. The basic benefits of free market capitalism is that there is no such thing as recessions, depressions, taxation, governmental regulation, and unemployment, ghettos, and illiteracy are a rarity. Laissez faire capitalism had many defenders to include: Ayn Rand, who defended capitalism philosophically; Ludwig von Mises, who defended capitalism economically; and Nathaniel Brandon, who defended capitalism psychologically. Ludwig von Mises warned against socialism when he said, “A society that chooses between capitalism and socialism does not choose between two social systems; it chooses between social cooperation and the disintegration of society. Socialism: is not an alternative to capitalism; it is an alternative to any system under which men can live as human beings.”

The causes of the spread of socialism in America are somewhat complex. Ayn rand believed some of the greatest advances socialism made in infiltrating America were the creation of Antitrust laws and The New Deal. Rand also felt capitalism didn’t have enough philosophical backing, which is needed for any revolutionary idea succeed. Rand viciously attacked the Anti-Laws when she said, “The alleged purpose of the Antitrust laws was to protect competition; that purpose was based on the socialistic fallacy that a free, unregulated market will inevitably lead to the establishment of coercive monopolies. But, in fact, no coercive monopoly has ever been or ever can be established by means of free trade on a free market. Every coercive monopoly was created by government intervention into the economy: by special privileges, such as franchises or subsidies, which closed the entry of competitors into a given field, by legislative action. (For a full demonstration of this fact, I refer you to the works of the best economists.) The Antitrust laws were the classic example of a moral inversion prevalent in the history of capitalism: an example of the victims, the businessmen, taking the blame for the evils caused by the government, and the government using its own guilt as a justification for acquiring wider powers, on the pretext of “correcting” the evils.”

Before I proceed I’d like you to imagine a society where the word “I” was banned in some places, a society where the types of clothing you wear were limited and controlled, a society that places speakers around town that plays the societies patriotic songs, a society where you have to address certain people with respect, even if they disrespected you. Imagine a society where your boss decides whether or not you go home to see your family that day, a job that you couldn't quit whenever you wanted, a society where you must stand in weird and uncomfortable positions when certain people talk to you. Imagine a place where you can’t always have freedom of speech to speak your mind, a place where personal firearms are banned, a society where a baker makes the same amount of money as an engineer and neither is motivated by profit, a society where rules and regulations are more important than just getting the job done. Are you thinking the Soviet Union or the U.S. military?

As a veteran myself I’m not blaming military members, only a flawed system. The military contributes greatly to the spreading of socialism in America. Many service members returning to the semi-capitalist world have troubles adapting. I’ve personally witnessed service members in therapy, because when they got out they tried to control their employees with a socialistic totalitarian approach they were use to in the military, causing them to be fired from every job they held. Many service members attempt to alter their civilian work environment to the authoritarian atmosphere of the military, especially those veterans who seek public office. The military has become an example to follow by civilian companies who look up to the flawed socialistic system. America should adopt a new foundation to build on, one that resembles that of a capitalist society over a communist one.

The public school system is another great contributor to socialistic views, and is contributing to the dumbing down of America. A statistic shows only 15% of people read books, which is the sad. You can’t learn and know things if you don’t read books. President of the American Federation of Teachers Albert Shanker said, "It's time to admit that public education operates like a planned economy, a bureaucratic system in which everybody's role is spelled out in advance and there are few incentives for innovation and productivity. It's no surprise that our school system doesn't improve: It more resembles the communist economy than our own market economy." By having a society that is educated by their rulers in a socialist fashion, it’s no wonder why socialism in spreading. America must bring the free markets into the education system and abolish the public school system, or socialistic views will continue to be adopted by our children and this country.

The media is another powerful contributor to socialism. The owners of the major media corporations have ties with the government. Most persons working in the media were brought up in the socialistic realm of the public school system, and continue their pursuit toward socialism in the media. Over 60% of Americans get their news on TV, hardly ever out of books. The media has a great advantage. They are able to choice what to talk about, how to portray emotions, and who is allowed to be seen by the public. The media is able to spread their socialistic views rapidly, and when someone tries to deviate they will meet with the same fate as Jane Akre, who was fired by Fox News for trying to report on the hormones being put into milk. It’s time America gets the government out of education and ties to the media.

Perhaps the greatest support for Barack Hussein Obama was seen in the inner cities, yet it’s the government that causes these ghetto's. If we got rid of the Public School System, that would cause people to be better educated. By unrestricting firearms there would be less crime. Also, by legalizing all drugs a study showed the homicide rate would drop as much as 75%. A compounding problem to this is affirmative action that creates racism by unfairly giving certain groups of people advantages without regard to qualifications. By taking these steps we can severely reduce the amount of ghettos, which would project America into a better-informed, capitalist defending society.

Obama was elected because socialism spread throughout America. Socialism spread because capitalism was poorly defended. By taking heed to Ayn Rand, revamping our military to resemble a capitalist society, abolishing the public school system, freeing up ties with the media, and reducing the amount of ghettoes, America can become a capitalist society.
