This week we had a Senator that was once again talking about bringing the Fairness Doctrine back. It was in an interview with Bill Press where she talks about the so called need for fairness on the radio. That we should be required to have both sides of the story to protect the people. We all know that many Americans listen to talk radio. They don't know that there is another side to the story because we are all idiots. We have to have the government intervene and make sure they help us out; cause they think we are idiots remember.Senator Stabenow

True story: They were having this interview because Obama 1260 AM, an all Obama radio station, in Washington DC had just gone out of business. Now who would of thought the people did not want to hear all Obama all the time?

Host: "Is it time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine?"

Senator Stabenow: "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it's called the Fairness Standard or whether it's called something else, I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency and, you know, that we all Have to step up and be responsible, and I think in this case there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.

Host: "Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year to bring these owners in and hold them accountable?"

Senator Stabenow: "I have already had some discussion with colleagues and I feel like that's going to happen, yeah."

What kind of an answer is that? Why do we need a "standard" and "accountability?" If you ask me this is a medium where capitalism has worked the way it should have worked. Many formats have been tried and tested, and they people have chosen what they want to listen to. If they did not want to listen to the likes of Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, or Rush Limbaugh they would not be on the air. The fact of the matter is that liberals are not happy that average Americans do not want to listen to their leftist nonsense. Many, many liberal stations have been tried and they all failed.

I think you see the most accountability with Glen, Sean, and Rush -- transparency too. They do not censor their callers, you hear it as they say it. You have these people out there telling you exactly how they feel. They do not sugar coat it as a liberal may. They do not try to disguise it in some other fashion. They tell you how they feel, and they back it up with facts. I honestly think this scares the left. They know that talk radio is a threat to them, because people believe them. When someone has facts to back up their claims its hard to deny it. Don't you think its interesting how they are only looking to bring the fairness doctrine to the radio waves? The television is primarily liberal as well as the internet (blogs). You do not see the liberals claiming that fairness needs to be seen on those mediums.

Albeit, you have to wonder why this lady is so passionate and outspoken on this issue. It is almost as if she feels she has been wronged by talk radio. Let's take a second to meet her husband. He is the co-founder and chief executive of the liberal progressive democracy radio. Also, the executive vice president of Air America. After leaving Air America Radio, he now heads Talk USA radio. So her husband is and has been an executive for liberal talk radio. It just so happens these platforms keep failing.

To me that sounds like she has a deep rooted conflict of interest. After her husband has been a part of at least three failed liberal companies it would be in her interest for it to be forced to be in business.

Now on the point of transparency: Why when asked about the fairness doctrine did this woman not say "Maybe I am not the person to discuss this issue because I am biased and will profit if passed." I think that's something that should be out in the open don't you? That is the fair and transparent thing to do. Why don't you give her a call and ask her yourself? The number is 202-224-4822, that is the office number for Senator Stabenow.

I went to school as a film/radio/TV guy, so I know all about the Fairness
Doctrine. The idea is that the News, selling of commercials, and
promotions/speeches should get equal time during an election period. Hosts like
Jay Leno, Glenn Beck, and Oprah don't fall under those categories, so they can
spew anything they want.

Since the radio is going to be going digital, much
like TV, this will open up dozens (if not hundreds) of other frequencies that
can be used for radio stations. The reason that air waves are regulated is
because there is a limited number of frequencies. If anything, the Fairness
Doctrine should lose power because of the ability of left wing talk shows to
start broadcasting.
