Obama: Lawful Gun Owners Have Nothing To Fear Print E-mail

The One has spoken, and he says we have nothing to fear.

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”

Common sense eh? If I remember correctly, and I am pretty sure I am, did you not vote for a complete handgun ban? Oh yes, you did. What else did you vote for Mr. Obama? Oh yeah, a ban on all semi-automatic weapons. You know why people are stocking up on their firearms? Because people just do not believe Barack Obama.

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it’s not Obama’s words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.Barack Obama

“Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold,” Arulanandam said.

I love the Brady Campaign against law abiding citizens:

“Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue” said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence. “We don’t think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more.”

First off, where do you get this information from? I mean, being that you do not have to list if you are a first time owner or not where does this data come from? I know where it came from, but I will be civil and not write it. Second, who are you to say what is "more than enough guns?"

Actually, I do believe you will take at least some guns. I know you want to take aim to bring back the 1994 Assault Weapons ban that idiot Clinton put in. The best part of that is this ban is based purely on aesthetics.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) was a subtitle of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, a federal law of the United States that included a prohibition on the sale to civilians of certain semi-automatic so called "assault weapons" including military-style semiautomatic rifles derived from assault rifles. There was no legal definition of "assault weapons" prior to its enactment.

If you notice, the law is banned weapons that looked like assault weapons. The civilian version of lets say the M4/M16 is no different than a deer rifle of the same caliber. Why ban it might you ask? Because the far left is doing what they do best, fear mongering. Hey I am taking one of their terms for the right, cool huh?

I think I have my right to own an M4, just because it looks aggressive doesn't make it anymore lethal than any other weapon out there.

An 2004 study commissioned by the United States Department of Justice found that assault weapons were used in only a small fraction of gun crimes prior to the ban, about 2 percent according to most studies and no more than 8 percent.

Now that is interesting. Have you ever wondered why "assault weapons" are not used in many crimes? First, they are too expensive criminals do not want to spend a lot of money on a weapon they will only use once or twice. Second, they want "throw away" guns. It kind of ties into the first, but basically they want weapons that they can easily dispose of. Third, assault weapons and rifles alike are way too bulky. They want something easily concealed so they don't stick out like a sore thumb. M4

In closing: It comes down to the fact that Americans still do not fully believe Obama when he says he will not take our firearms. I don't blame them though. Lately he is changing his mind over and over again on a ton of issues. With Obama deciding that he will continue the Bush interrogation tactics, changing his mind on windfall profit taxs, and more he obviously does not stick to his word. Makes you wonder if Obama voters knew what he stood for doesnt it? No wonder liberals are getting angry with the one now that he won.
